About
EatFirst started with a simple, annoying problem: a fridge full of food, and no easy way to know what needed eating before it went off.
The problem
Most households waste a real amount of food, and most of it isn't carelessness. It's the punnet of berries hiding behind the milk, the yoghurt a day past its date, the bag of spinach you forgot you opened. By the time you notice, it's bin food. The information you needed (what's in here, and what runs out first) was never in one place.
What EatFirst does
You add what you buy, with its date, by scanning a barcode or tapping a favourite. EatFirst keeps a single, always-sorted list of what to eat first, soonest-to-expire at the top, with a ripeness traffic-light so you can read it at a glance. It's on your phone, and it can sit on the fridge door on a small e-ink panel so the whole household sees it without opening an app. There's a shopping list for what you use up, and gentle reminders you can switch on.
How we think about it
EatFirst is built to be calm and to stay out of your way. A few principles guide it:
- Your data is yours. No ads, no analytics, no trackers, and we never sell it. You can delete everything whenever you like, and ask for a copy any time.
- Quiet by default. No streaks, no badges, no nagging. It tells you what needs eating and otherwise leaves you alone.
- Household-scale. It's made for real kitchens and the people who share them, not for growth charts.
What's next
EatFirst tells you what to eat first. Its sibling app, CookNext (coming soon), will take what's about to expire and turn it into something to cook tonight. Same family, same calm approach.
